Abisco

Two nights allowed me to take a day off and enjoy the national park. I cannot adequately explain just how special it is here. The wilderness. Elk on the roads, although I haven't seen a single Raindeer. The lake is almost a fjord. That is what it looks like. Until the 1980's there was no road through, just the railway line taking iron ore from Kiruna to the ice free port of Narvik. Majestic ice capped old mountains towering over tiny Sami communities.

I took the chair lift and then hiked to the summit of Njulla alone. I am amazed at where I have brought myself to, with Elsa and Jane. I sat for a long time looking down at the wonderful scene below. The chill reminding me that it is real. This most beautiful remote valley. Mountains, clouds, and lake shores merging in the mist. Cafe Creme and Florence and the machine. A sound track for a special day.

How long can you sit and watch the sun not go down? Midnight seems right. Time to sleep.

  2. I'll post what I have. I am seriously aware of my poor ability with a camera. Go on line and search Abisco. I think they have webcams.
